It’s a little strange to see Namewee, a Malaysian, representing Japan in an event in Paris, France but that’s what happened! Then again, he's full of surprises. You'll never know what song he comes up with next!
The 35-year-old Muar-born singer was on a “special mission” as a foreign ambassador for cultural exchange at Japan Expo 2018.

Japan Expo is an annual convention showcasing Japanese popular culture and entertainment. This year it was held at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center from 5- 8 July.

It turned out Namewee was invited to perform his viral hit Tokyo Bon 2020 at the expo.
The catchy pop song is also known as Makudonarudo (McDonald’s in Japanese) and has cute Japanglish (Japanese English) lyrics. The year 2020 refers to the year Japan is set to host the Olympics in Tokyo. Namewee has expressed his wish to perform the song at the Tokyo Olympics.
Namewee performed in the music video with Japanese actress-singer Meu Nimomiya (1,000 Year Princess) and other famous Japanese Youtubers such as RyuuuTV, YuuumaTV, MaoMaoTV, ShenLimTV, Mira’s Garden and Yuko Hayama.
The music video of the hit song released in November 2017 contained a lot of Japanese culture such as showcasing Sumo wrestlers, ninja warriors and Bon Odori dancers. Perhaps that's what helped his song get featured at the expo. The musical arrangement was done with Japanese instruments such as shamisen and Okinawan music style too!
His song proved to be popular that there’s a dance version of the song choreographed by Japanese traditional dance expert Ukon Takafuji!
